WEG Performs Emergency Maintenance on a Generator for the Sugar and Ethanol Industry with Record Delivery Time
WEG provided emergency support to a major company in the sugar and ethanol sector, performing specialized maintenance services on the stator of a 43,750 kVA, 13.8 kV, 4-pole GE generator, a critical piece of equipment for the plant’s power generation system.
The project began with the execution of the RM Guardian service on-site in January 2026, when high partial discharge levels were detected, followed by the shipment of the equipment to WEG’s service facility. The scope included cleaning and oven-drying cycles, RM Guardian testing, double VPI impregnation, application of anti-corona and anti-tracking coatings, recovery of corona-affected areas to reduce partial discharge levels, as well as electrical testing, assembly, and cable reconnection.
The machine arrived at the factory on February 10, 2026, and was returned to the customer just 17 days later, on February 27, 2026, in an operation carried out within a compressed schedule to ensure the equipment was available before the start of the sugarcane harvest season.
This project represents an important improvement in the operational reliability of the plant’s power generation system, directly contributing to the stability of both the production process and the facility’s cogeneration operations. Equipment availability is considered strategic, as any downtime directly impacts power generation capacity and, consequently, the plant’s operating revenue.
For WEG, the project highlights its ability to respond quickly and provide specialized support in emergency situations, particularly during critical periods such as the off-season. The rapid execution of the project was one of its key differentiators, enabling the customer’s requirements to be met within the required timeframe.
The customer maintains an ongoing relationship with WEG for maintenance services, operating four industrial facilities and approximately 13 generators and motors supported by WEG’s service portfolio. Through this project, WEG further strengthens its presence in the sugar and ethanol industry, delivering solutions that enhance the reliability, availability, and performance of assets that are critical to industrial operations.
